Mrs. English's Book Reviews: |
RAYMIE NIGHTINGALE
This Middle Grade (MG) book deals with divorced parents, friendship, fitting in, and making friends. While it deals with these serious issues, it is told in a way that will keep you laughing throughout the book. This book seems to be geared more towards girls, but I think boys would find this an enjoyable read as well. I think this book would be a good read for grades 3-6.
Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli
One of my favorite books. This book is about a boy who was just a normal high school student until the day he met a girl named Stargirl. Stargirl teaches him that it is okay to stand out and not to take life so seriously. While I have seen many MG students read this book, I would recommend it for students 5th grade or older. While there is nothing inappropriate in it, it is written for an young adult (YA) audience. It does have some mild language in it.
“A children's story that can only be enjoyed by children is not a good children's story in the slightest.”
